Loving Love

Well, here it is--my return to the blog. And it only took a holiday worth writing about to get me here.

We had a great Valentine's Day. I was trying to remember our first few Valentine's celebrations, and none were sticking out. But last night was just what we needed.

My Valentine's actually started in the morning. Ben had to get to a recital on campus, and I was staying at home to finish up housework. But, as we were finishing our coffee, I noticed that his fake book on the piano was opened to the song, "My Funny Valentine." So, I asked for and received a quick Valentine's recital. Love having a musician husband!

Then, when he came home from the recital, he was not empty handed! My valentine went against tradition and got me a beautiful mixed bouquet that really brightens up our apartment, both with its color and fragrance. I am a totally predictable girl when it comes to flowers, I just love them, so I was happy that Ben obliged me :)

Then, we had a date night. We went to Rigsby's Kitchen for dinner. It was very ok. The best part about the night was the wine: the Santi 'Solane' Valpolicella. That was delicious.

The food was fine, and by fine I mean nothing spectacular. My steak was kind of tough, Ben says his bass was flavorless but it came with good veggies. Of course, the ambience was fun (who isn't a sucker for a valentine's dinner with a single red rose on the table), and the best part about the meal was the company.

We skipped dessert at Rigsby's in favor of Jeni's Ice Creams across the street. I love. me. some. Jeni's. So delicious.

We also snapped a self-portrait to commemorate our V-day date, that, for some reason I just love:

Nothing special, just us.

We finished off our evening with a movie, Up In The Air. I really liked it. Good acting, smart script, and even a supporting part played by Chicago actress Amy Morton. It was all about the balance between work and life, love and ambition. If you ask me, I think it perfectly captured all the same conflict and themes as Death of A Salesman.

It was a fun date, one we both needed. It's been a long time since both of us have been quite this busy, so an evening spent together was a real treat.
